WHO IS JOSH?

I’m an athlete. I’m a husband. I’m a father. I’m a son. I’m a brother. It just so happens, I’m also a congenital below-elbow amputee.

For a long time, I neglected that fact.

Three years ago, it took intrigued arm amputees from all over the globe peppering me with emails, tweets and Facebook messages asking for advice, pictures and videos for me to realize, adaptive athletes want to compete as fiercely as any able-bodied athlete and that neglecting them is the same as neglecting who I am. With a brand new son at the time, it was time I stopped thumbing my nose at them and started to accept who I was and teach my son (and now daughter) that people like ‘Daddy’ are not only ‘ok’, but their passion, heart, determination and failures have nothing to do with their body.

WHAT DOES TEAM SAR MEAN TO JOSH?

I see TeamSAR as a torch. We’re the light being carried into the dark places to find those who don’t have the intestinal fortitude. Men, women, children, veterans…able-bodied. It’s why I want to be a part of this evolution.  We’re organic and we’re growing.
